We were so impressed with all of the looks generated in our Neon Summer Brights contest… but the nature of a contest is that somebody has to be on top, and these are the big winners!

It was almost a given that paula of  born-to-be-brave woud win our contest after being named a “top set” by polyvore editors, but it really is all down to the styling. From the celestial skirt to the neon-retro sunnies, the whole look is fierce and clearly the winner! born-to-be-brave won her choice of of our neon bracelet in mixed metals – and she chose pink! We’ll be winging her prize off to Rome, not that we’re jealous she lives there or anything… 😉

Our coveted 2nd place slot goes to Kayla of  kaylamae03. We just loved this st, from the choice of clothes to the overall layout and color palette. It’s a shining example of how to wear neon and keep it classy and chic.

Our 3rd place standout is a look that’s pure FUN. It’s so summery and simple – and we loved her use of complementary colors to highlight our jewels without having to match. Congrats to rachel on her win!

VPL Inspires with Unusual Knitwear at NY Fashion Week

We were really blown away by VPL‘s presentation at New York Fashion Week. Victoria Bartlett seemed to draw her inspiration from Japanese architectural draping and design, while infusing her own vegan ethics into the line. The result is natural curvature and unusual silhouettes that are both futuristic and cozy.

Continuing with an orignal aesthetic in silhouette and material, Pedro Lourenco nailed the color palette with his Pre-Fall 2012 Collection. Putting an extremely contemporary spin on traditional Japanese hand-painted textiles, the 21 year-old designer paints the perfect picture…

Neighbor Love: Introducing Joshu + Vela

Can we get a hip hip for discovering other San Francisco designers? We know they’re out there, but sometimes things get lonely. So we’re excited to announce our latest independent SF discovery, Joshu + Vela bags! Their heritage-style bags and accessories are made entirely in their San Francisco studio using vegetal tanned leather and hazard-free waxwear from New York.

Indigo and mango leaves are used to dye canvas and brass hardware is the finishing touch. It’s no wonder that their products are so popular in the Bay Area, with their zip backpack being an obvious must-have at select design stores and the kind of thing no one would mind getting caught carrying at Dolores Park or Ocean Beach…

All styles are designed to age with wear from your casual (or glorious) adventures and you can see the progression on their blog! Needless to say, we’re glad to have another sustainable designer in town.
