VPL Inspires with Unusual Knitwear at NY Fashion Week

We were really blown away by VPL‘s presentation at New York Fashion Week. Victoria Bartlett seemed to draw her inspiration from Japanese architectural draping and design, while infusing her own vegan ethics into the line. The result is natural curvature and unusual silhouettes that are both futuristic and cozy.

Our Favorite Current Trends from Refinery 29

One of our favorite sources for fashion and lifestyle news, Refinery 29, has released their Top 10 Fall Trends from New York Fashion Week! Here are the looks we can’t wait to rock:

Knit Dresses: Who doesn’t like a stylish solution that’s both cozy and chic? Different knitwear weights keep these pieces interesting and various, with a relaxed hand that’s so modern!

Prints on Prints: So this one may be a little bit harder to get right, but when it’s right, it’s SO right. Keeping two bold prints in the same colorway is the trick to not going overboard with this trend that’s bold and beautiful!

Fluorescent Orange: If we could make it a year-round color, we would! Saturated, coral-like shades of orange are incredibly fresh. Perfectly matched with a shade of taupe or beige!

Designer Spotlight – Costello Tagliapietra is Dyeing for Air

New York Fashion Week hosted a bountiful array of sustainable designers, and we aim to tell you about as many as we can! But let’s start with Costello Tagliapietra, the refreshing design duo (of surprising stature, might we add) that sees the necessity of ecological change in the fashion industry, and implements it in their designs using AirDye technology.

With the textiles being one of the most toxic and wasteful industries out there, we hope to see AirDye, which uses 90% less water and 85% less energy than typical dyeing methods, become the norm. As  Robert Tagliapietra puts it in an interview with Ecouterre, it’s simply a “no-brainer”.

And just look at the results! The duo’s Spring/Summer 2012 line is full of bright and bold color with patterns and florals to match, with just a hint of Eastern influence and luxurious fabrics. If everything went AirDye, we wouldn’t complain!
